Disk utilization:du

-c produces a grand total at the end of the run.
-h human readable format
-s summarizes
-k prints size in kilobytes

ex: du -hc *
du -shc /usr/*

the du command displays information about the filename or filenames given as parameters. if a directory name is given , then du recurses and calculates sizes for every file ands subdirectory of the given directory.


Ex: zodiac@ubuntu:/data$ du -bh | more

du: cannot read directory `./lost+found': Permission denied
16K ./lost+found
